ABOUT US

IT ALL STARTED WHEN…

Robert P Jackson started up the business in 1866 in the heart of Liverpool City Centre. Originating at No.3 Slater Street and after surviving an ever changing world, evolving market trends and even two World Wars the family-run business has stood the test of time and is still located on the same street to this day just a few doors down at No.20. Recently celebrating its 150th year anniversary the shop continues as Liverpool’s oldest Art Shop providing artists with supplies and offering a huge range of framing services. The shop has an incredible history and it can be seen from the historic storefront that has remained the same way since opening. R.Jackson & Sons has incredibly, remained as a family ran business, now in its 5th generation and is run by Phil Brewer who has been working in the business for more than 40 years.

After opening the doors in 1866 Robert was joined by his son John, 26 years later in in 1892 and the business became known as R Jackson & Son. Around 18 years later, in 1900 Son Harry joined and with this the business name changed to R Jackson & Sons which, three generations later, remains our trading name.

The architecture of the storefront has very much always reminded to that of the original store in 1866. The R.Jackson & Sons name stands boldly in gold leaf at the top of the store and embraces the classic style of that which originally opened the business up at No.3 Slater Street.

Slater Street has always been the home of R.Jackson & Sons. located in the heart of Liverpool City Centre. The name R.Jackson & Sons is a very big part of the illustrious history of Slater Street and has the business has stamped its mark and stood the test of time.

Upon opening the doors in 1866 at No.3 Slater Street, R.Jackson & Sons remains on the same street just a few doors down from the original store, where it is now located at No.20 Slater Street.

After relocating from No.3 to No.18a Slater Street, the business remained at this address from 1925-1941. Until during the war, the building was bombed in the May Blitz of 1941. After surviving the war the R.Jackson & Sons business continued and relocated to its present address that it stands at today, No.20 Slater Street.

The business has sat at No.20 Slater Street for almost 80 years. Still offering the same quality art supplies and framing service that the R.Jackson & Sons name has made for itself.

The business today is in the third generation of the R.Jackson & Sons family and is run by Phil Brewer. Phil has been in the business for more than 40 years and it all started when he began working for his father at the age of 12 helping around the store as a Saturday job. Phil then built his way up to take the business over from his father on 11th July 1986 at the age of 26. Ever since that day Phil has been the forefront of the R.Jackson & Sons family-run business and has helped the business surpass its 150th year anniversary.

Phil is very proud of what the R.Jackson & Sons family has achieved and is proud to be apart of the history as is the whole workforce. Phil stands by the traditional values and work ethics that was established early on within the company and believes that is the reason for the success of the business and also the future of R.Jackon & Sons.
